Starting Anew

The beginning of a New Year always comes with hopes to “resolve” the things you want to improve or begin. According to some popular sites; lose weight, eat healthier, and get out of debt seem to be the top three resolutions that people are striving for. The problem is, many won’t make it past January.

This is quite the defeat when you think of it, and really, many won’t want to try. As I get older, and hopefully wiser, I have found that I don’t have to wait until the beginning of a New Year to make a resolution. Knowing Jesus, and becoming closer to Him, I can start fresh daily. Now don’t misconstrue what I mean. I am not saying, I can sin intentionally because I know God will forgive me, no not at all. Quite the opposite- just as the great apostle Paul said, “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.”
Romans 7:15

What I am saying is that the God I know, is a God of new beginnings. He is a God who loves us immensely, and searches for us relentlessly. He is a God who forgives. He is the God of hope, and He is the God that makes all things new.

Dear friends, while it makes sense to start afresh at the beginning of the year, you don’t have to wait until the beginning of a New Year.

His perfect word promises:

“Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, or his compassions never fail.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness”

Lamentations 3:22-23

So if today is the day you are ready to make a resolution, then let it be for you are created to do great things.
